AS SHE TELLS IT

"My great-grandmother spent two years in a prison 400 miles away from her home and her three daughters". AS SHE TELLS IT is a documentary theatre piece based on interviews with several women who lived through the civil war.  Two of them are from Valencia, where I was born, and the other three from Bilbao, where I live now.

This show is a tribute to all the women who suffered the war, the postwar repression and the Franco regime. Based on interviews and collected documentation, the show tells us about life in the shelters during the bombings, the experience of women in prisons, the reprisals, the mass graves, the exile....

It mixes video, performance and direct conversations with the public.

Comments from audience members:

“Magnificent and touching”(S.M),

“We left the theatre moved” (E.N.)..

"Extremely pedagogical " (F.M.),

“ A terrible and necessary solo act. Beyond the history of Spain, of Francoism, of the victims of this dictatorship, of these men and women dragged and battered by human folly, it is the crudity of war that we are told. In this current context of war in Gaza, in Ukraine, the play not only invites us to consider the past, but the present too. The testimonies dramatized by Bea Insa come alive before our eyes, to haunt us once the play ends and we leave the theatre. A tough and necessary show. A contemporary mise-en-scène, with a set design that works in harmony with the performer. To be watched urgently.”(S.G.)
